Aotea Health Expands

You may be wondering what is happening behind the screening between the Community Health Centre and the Playground.

The GBI Community Health Trust who on behalf of our community own the health-related buildings and equipment is really excited to announce that the HEALTH CENTRE NEW WING build has finally started. Once completed this will be leased to Aotea Health – who provide the primary health care services for us all.

There will be extra consulting rooms, offices,  a telemedicine room and lots of storage to name a few of the rooms. Overall more space for our community and Health Team to function within as the Health Centre is currently bursting at its seams.

Below, Steve Kendall the Health Trust Chair turning the first clod with his spade to begin the build, watched by Di Simpson and Bev Blackwell, former members of the Awana Rural Women of NZ whose fabulous donation made this all possible!

Latest updates this week:

The New Wing development is progressing rapidly with the ply floor already being set down. The frames arrived this afternoon from the Barge and the walls will be up ASAP. The builders are working at pace and the Great Barrier Island Community Health Trust could not be happier to see our community vision coming into fruition.
