Whangapoua Campground - Department of Conservation

Information

Beautiful views across to Rakitu Island and Hirakimata (Mt Hobson) in the background, Whangapoua campground is located next to the Whangapoua Estuary and a popular surf break.

Just down the road from the Harataonga Coastal Track, the campground is a great stop for campsite hopping, hiking between Harataonga and Akapoua in Port Fitzroy.

Surfing at Whangapoua beach is not for the faint hearted, so please be careful. A paddle across the estuary is required which can have powerful currents out into the ocean.

Fires are not permitted at any time.
Dogs are not permitted at any DoC campgrounds.

For more information and reserving a site, please see the Department of Conservation website below.
