DESCRIPTION:MOTU COMMUNITY PLANT NURSERY OPENS IN MEDLANDS \nJust in time for the planting season\, in line with the much needed rain\, we are really excited to announce that we have opened the new native plant nursery in Medlands at The Village on Mason Road – alongside Aotea Brewing\, Aotea Roast\, and Good Neighbors Food Truck. \nThis is our retail nursery site\, where you can come check out all the eco-sourced natives we have available\, chat to us about planting plans and projects\, learn about Aotea’s native plants and just enjoy the atmosphere in the nursery. \nOpening Party Celebration  \nFriday 25 April 1-6pm  \nFood\, drinks\, and of course plants will be available. Come celebrate the opening of the nursery\, check it out and enjoy The Village.  \nEveryone is welcome and we’d love to see you there!  \nWeekly Nursery Opening Hours:  \n– Fridays 9:00am – 2:00pm \n– Saturdays 8:30am – 12:00pm \n(Closed Good Friday\, Open Easter Sunday) \nThis project has been a big undertaking and we are super proud and excited about what we’ve accomplished so far\, but we wouldn’t be here without all the support. The island is widely considered as one of the best places in the Southern Hemisphere to view the night sky. It’s the perfect place to embark on a stargazing adventure! \nTo get the most out of your time under the stars consider a stargazing experience with small local business Good Heavens. They provide guided stargazing experiences – on top of a sand dune. Here\, the team provide moon chairs and blankets\, so that you can lean back in comfort and wonder… Is there a better place to appreciate our place in the universe? \nPicture yourself\, nestled under a blanket while you gaze up and are whisked away on a journey through our solar system and beyond. Good Heavens’ guides are your celestial companions\, treating you to captivating tales and mind-blowing facts about the night sky. They’ll share the enchanting stories our ancestors used to make sense of this wondrous world above. And they’ll even treat you to a hot chocolate\, to still increase your stellar bliss. \nThere are experiences 2-4 times a week\, so have a look at their website and see if they coincide with your island stay. If not\, send them an email and they may be able to book in an experience for you\, especially if you book long in advance or if you have a group of 4 or more. Also\, book in for your first night on the island\, so that you have a few nights up your sleeve in case the weather isn’t suitable for stargazing on your first night. Clear skies!

DESCRIPTION:  \nNo bookings required. \n  \nBird Avoidance Training is taking place on Aotea on Saturday the 26 th of April in Okiwi\, Okupu\, Medlands and Tryphena.  \nBird Avoidance Training can minimise the threat of dogs injuring or killing native birds. As a responsible dog owner\, it is a key part of training your pooch and looking after our wildlife.  \nNesting time might be over for many of our shorebirds\, but there are still chicks around. Black petrel chicks fledge in April and May\, and by July and August\, our pāteke and bitterns will be starting to nest.  \nLike people\, some dogs learn faster than others\, and practice makes perfect. So\, whether your dog is a young puppy coming along for the first time or an older pet that has been before\, we encourage you to bring them along for a refresher. Bird species used are changed each season to make it relevant for the dogs. DESCRIPTION:Let’s have one last crack before winter! \nCome on down to our Autumn Groove at the brewery on ANZAC weekend Saturday arvo. \nWe are stoked to be bringing you five piece reggae/ska band Strangely Arousing \nProudly living an odyssey dreamed up in a forge of fiery hearts – these four young scallywags have been around the world and back since their formation in Rotorua in 2013. They moved to Auckland as a collective and promptly dropped out of University to tour full-time. Since then they’ve clocked multiple near sell-out circuits of NZ\, a tour of South Korea/China\, and Dubai. This journey has kept the boys together longer than many marriages.  \nAnd while the union of man and woman can bless us with the wonders of new life; six years of union (and blood\, and sweat\, and tears… and Jim Beam) between these trippy hippies has led to the genesis of a new wave of music inspired by New Zealand’s legendary hip-hop and reggae dub forefathers.  \nIn an era where Fat Freddy’s Drop and Red Hot Chili Peppers are considered heritage artists and in a world where it’s ok to take the good bits from wherever you happen to find them\, Strangely Arousing considers themselves “trans genre” and have dropped multiple bone-wiggling E.P.s if you want to find out what that means. \nWhile they may be hard to describe they are easy to enjoy: Their Dub/Jazz/Reggae/everything-that’s-good influenced sound has taken them from the main stage of Rhythm and Vines to the exotic cityscapes of Dubai and Beijing.  \nThis train has been chugging along for awhile now\, and it’s not gonna stop anytime soon.\n \n\nAlongside these awesome grooves we will be experimenting with some seasonal food and drinks created especially for the event which celebrate the new collaborations across our Mason Road hub of Aotea Brewing\, Aotea Roast\, Good Neighbours Foodtruck and Motu Community Plant Nursery. \nAs always kids are welcome if they are supervised by whanau.

DESCRIPTION:Aotea Great Barrier Island is a Dark Sky Sanctuary. This means that our skies are exceptionally clear and dark. The island is widely considered as one of the best places in the Southern Hemisphere to view the night sky. It’s the perfect place to embark on a stargazing adventure! \nTo get the most out of your time under the stars consider a stargazing experience with small local business Good Heavens. They provide guided stargazing experiences – on top of a sand dune. Here\, the team provide moon chairs and blankets\, so that you can lean back in comfort and wonder… Is there a better place to appreciate our place in the universe? \nPicture yourself\, nestled under a blanket while you gaze up and are whisked away on a journey through our solar system and beyond. Good Heavens’ guides are your celestial companions\, treating you to captivating tales and mind-blowing facts about the night sky. They’ll share the enchanting stories our ancestors used to make sense of this wondrous world above. And they’ll even treat you to a hot chocolate\, to still increase your stellar bliss. \nThere are experiences 2-4 times a week\, so have a look at their website and see if they coincide with your island stay. If not\, send them an email and they may be able to book in an experience for you\, especially if you book long in advance or if you have a group of 4 or more. Also\, book in for your first night on the island\, so that you have a few nights up your sleeve in case the weather isn’t suitable for stargazing on your first night. Clear skies!
