DESCRIPTION:Our island community is about to lose 24/7 ambulance cover for the first time in fifteen years.\nThis problem is primarily due to the fact that our few dedicated volunteers also have day jobs\, and there is a lack of funding for alternative ways of operating.\nCurrently the service is provided by just three qualified volunteers\, one whom provides the majority of cover throughout each week\, and this situation has now become unsustainable.\n\n\nAlthough this may sound grim at first\, there is an opportunity here for our community to implement a more sustainable and collaborative solution that helps to further enhance healthcare services across the motu.\n\n\nPlease join us at the Barrier Social Club for a community hui at 3pm on April the 20th\, to discuss the problem in depth\, consider proposed solutions\, and to brainstorm some ideas as to how we can implement a more sustainable solution.\n\n\n\nIt is important to remember that in a medical emergency (regardless of future local ambulance availability) you should dial 111 and ask for ambulance\, as this will still result in a coordinated response from the health centre team\, rescue helicopters and other emergency services as required.\n\n\nFor more info about our ambulance service and Adam Johnston who runs it you can access a recent interview with Adam here – https://www.greatbarrier.co.nz/staying-alive/  – With thanks to Tim & Georgie Higham

DESCRIPTION:Dates for the following 3 months  \n\nMay 11th (Saturday) – May 26th\nJune 9th – June 23rd\nJuly 7th   – July 21st\n\nYouth Club Details \nKawa Mara Taiohi Tū Māia Program will run fortnightly on Sundays from 10am – 3pm. This may however change\, due to weather in the winter months. A Panui will be put up on Barrier Chit Chat fortnightly (a week prior) to advise of activities\, any date changes\, location\, and any other information we need to provide. \nThe ages for this program are 10yrs to 18yrs old. Children under 10 are most welcome to attend provided they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.  \nAs we have limited transportation\, we ask\, if possible\, to please drop off and pick up\, your Taiohi/Tamariki at the location of their chosen activity.  \nKai will be provided\, (unless your child has severe food allergies). Your Taiohi/Tamariki must bring their own snacks and drink bottles. Hats and sunscreen are also essential.  \nBooking contact details are- 0275258802\, email- nancy.kawamarae@gmail.com or through messenger.
