SUMMARY:The Wingman Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Wingman Festival was born from the love and loss of our brother Shane ‘Wingman’ Billingham. Shane\, tragically passed away at the age of 33 while at Burning Man Festival 19 in Nevada U.S.\n\nShane had a larger-than-life soul\, was easy-going\, with a world-famous smile. He loved everything good in this world; most of all music\, whanau\, and his home – Aotea/Great Barrier.\n\nMusic is what Shane lived for\, starting as a youngster in his family home alongside his big brother and little sister. Shane advanced musically to be a founding member and kick-arse drummer of Solomon Jamski\, creating their very own album. In his mid-twenties he put the drumsticks aside and picked up a djembe drum and started traveling the world\, playing at some incredible festivals alongside the likes of Rueben Stone\, Grouch\, Issac Chambers…….\n\nShane loved the traveling musician lifestyle but his heart and home was always on Aotea/Great Barrier. He dreamed of bringing music and his worldly experiences to the island in the form of a festival.\n\nIn 2020\, a year after Shane’s passing the Aotea Wingman Festival Trust was created. Friends and family came together\, with the support of the community\, to see his dream come alive. The Wingman Festival is a not-for-profit event with money raised going to fund the tamariki’s own music and arts journeys as well as keeping the festival alive.

SUMMARY:Great Barrier Island's 'Spectacular by Nature' Garden Tour
DESCRIPTION:In 2022\, the Totara\, Kauri\, Rewa and Nikau Garden Tours will be on Saturday 26th of November. \nFor all information and ticket bookings click here – Bookings will be open from 1 June 2022 \nThis is a unique opportunity to view a variety of residential gardens on the Island. The guided tours will enable you to visit charming cottage gardens\, to see spectacular coastal panoramas and experience the hidden native flora and birdlife. The ticket includes tour transportation\, a scrumptious Morning Tea and a charming Devonshire Afternoon Tea. \nThe Garden Tour is a major fundraiser for the Great Barrier Island Community Health Trust to purchase equipment for use on the Island. The event involves many 100’s of hours of community volunteer time and energy and the participant feedback has been outstanding. It has become a very popular event and national and international celebrities who have participated in the past tours\, quote that it is ‘a must-do event’ for every keen gardener. \nA previous special guest Russell Fransham comments\, \n“Thank you so much for persuading me to come over for the garden tour. I had the most wonderful weekend on the Barrier.. my first time on the island. \nThe gardens I saw were such a treat\, all different and all very personal expressions of their creators’ lives. The passion\, creativity and commitment were so inspiring. Its very clear that Great Barrier people know they are part of something very special. I came away feeling so welcomed into island life and so many of the people I met felt like old friends by the time I flew home. \nI’m still on a high and I’ll be back for more.”
