The Great Barrier Island Community Heritage & Arts Village is run by a charitable Trust providing a gallery for local artists to display and sell their works.
The Great Barrier Island Community Heritage & Arts Village Trust is a charitable Trust employing a Gallery and financial Coordinator who both take care of the day to day running and administration of the village. Volunteer Trustees get together once a month to keep tabs on progress and make decisions about upcoming projects and policies.
On a daily basis, The Gallery is manned by a fantastic group of volunteers who selflessly give their time to keep the Gallery and shop open to the public. Projects are undertaken by Trustees and volunteers during working bees to keep costs down and keep us all in touch with what’s happening at the village.
The Gallery holds group and solo exhibitions throughout the year, workshops with visiting and local artists, and weekly, through the middle of the year, kids art group. We also hold market days where artists have stalls displaying and creating works.
We are proud to be able to support the local community by returning a large percentage of each sale back to the artist and thereby the island economy. The remainder of sales helps with the day to day running of the Village, winter workshop programs, kids art club and various events throughout the year.
